 Abraham, Daniel
 A Shadow in Summer
A Tor Book, Published by Tom Doherty Associates, LLC, 2006

Review
Follows a young man raised in a harsh school that may lead to becoming a sorcerer; an elderly woman with an important position as accountant to a wealthy merchant; the sorcerer who must control a magic being of his own construction that considers himself a slave -and therein lies the motive for the city being put in danger; can these people prevent disaster?; there is a love-triangle, but when it involves noncomittal sex then it is no romance

not bad – S,V

 Adlington, L.J.
 The Diary of Pelly D.
Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Pulishers, 2005

Review
Diary of a popular teenage girl whose life falls apart in a parallel to the holocaust; one of those books trying to teach a lesson and is overall depressing.

depressing – S

 Anderson, Janet S.

 Horizon Storms
 Aspect, Warner Books, 2004

Review
The Saga of Seven Suns Book 3: Elemental aliens continue ancient war humans have stirred up, AIs at war with humans, humans at war with humans, a general mess. Many characters but that doesn't annoy me as much as usual, keeps my interest. Some sex scenes but not overly so compared to other similar books.

ok – S

 Scattered Suns

Review
The Saga of Seven Suns -book 4; Plenty happens; too many characters; maybe better than others in series; references to harsh sexual situations

ok – S,V

Review
Tom-cat is the main character; moves into a barn of rescued critters; tells story of ancestor -how boy became a merchant in middle-ages; and contemporary story of boy learning how to read

cute

 Asaro, Catherine
 The Charmed Sphere
Luna, by arrangement with Harlequin Books, S.A., 2004

Review
OK, magic is interesting and a little different. Characters sympathetic; romance(s) not bad.

Tor, a Tom Doherty Associates Book, 2004

Review
Part One of Triad; genius teenager leaves the nest to join elite space force military; author is filling in untold parts of history from other novels and somehow this didn't seem real focused. Showed beginning of escalation of hostilities with bad guys. I always had a problem with the bad guys geneticaly engineered to get high off of other people's pain.

 The Final Key
A Tor Book published by Tom Doherty Associates, LLC, 2005

Review
Author playing around in her universe with her characters, kind of relates how war started and follows a struggle with drug addiction -but overall is unfocused; makes a big deal of a father accepting his gay son -but it's so stupid how these authors think this is progressive thinking when the overall affect on society is harmful (denial denial denial).

reservations – V,T,H

 Auel, Jean M.
The Clan of the Cave Bear
 Bantam Books, 1980

Review
Human raised by Neanderthals. Woman character very independent. Her sexual experience is harsh. Also beliefs about babies not connected to sex does not seem believable to me (I think even animals have this figured out).

not bad – S
