Life Lessons from Esther (part 2)
01/20/08
Dr. Phil Wilkes, Esther 4:1-17
We continue looking at Esther to discover some keys to walking with God. When Esther is faced with the decision about whether or not to go to the king without being summoned, which could mean her life, she asks all the Jews in Susa to fast. She and her maidens do the same. Implied in the fasting is the reality they are also praying and seeking God’s direction for what to do. After the fast Esther goes to the king, risking her own life to help the Jewish people. Prayer is crucial as we seek to walk with God and to obey Him. The result of seeking God is obedience to doing what is right, even when there is risk that Esther could lose her life. We also see in Mordecai a humility that is the opposite of the pride of Haman. While pride can lead one to a downfall humility results in a dependent trust in God.
