O Come Let Us Adore Him

Dr. Phil Wilkes, Matt 2:1-12

There are many important dates in history. However none are as important as the day a tiny baby was born in a manger in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. How do you respond to this baby who changed the world?

This Christmas consider that genuine worship starts by seeking Christ’s presence. You continue to worship the Lord as you submit yourself to Him. Submission is not something people today like to talk about much less do. Yet when you submit yourself to Christ you truly being to live and experience the abundant life promised by our Lord. Finally you express your commitment to Christ as you bring him your life, your time, your talents and your treasure. True worship changes you as you encounter the living Christ. You do not leave his presence the same as when you entered. Authentic worship will forever change you into the person Christ wants you to become.

The Indescribable Gift

Dr. Phil Wilkes, 2 Cor 9:15

It can be challenging sometimes finding just the right gift for someone at Christmas. God knew just what kind of gift to give to us. He gave us his son. The Apostle Paul says that God has given us a gift that is indescribable. People have tried for centuries to adequately put into words the person, nature and work of Jesus. While we try to do so we are limited. Yet it is quite evident that when you open your heart and receive God’s gift of Jesus in your life you are forever changed.

Have Your Own Way, Lord

Dr. Phil Wilkes, Matt 1:18-25

What does it mean to trust God? What does walking by faith really look like day by day? At Christmas we celebrate the coming of our Savior Jesus. But remember that God was working through people. Joseph was engaged to his future bride Mary. She gives him the news that she is pregnant. Joseph knew he was not the father. Because he loved Mary and was a righteous man he was not going to publicly humiliate her and possibly have her face the penalty for adultery: stoning to death.

Before Joseph can go through with the divorce an angel comes to him with a message. The child inside Mary is conceived from the Holy Spirit. It is o.k. for him to follow through with the marriage to Mary. But none of this makes sense.

We learn some important lessons from Joseph about walking by faith and trusting God when it doesn’t make sense to do so.
