A Dose of Encouragement
01/27/08
Dr. Phil Wilkes, Acts 4:36-37, 9:26-28,
15:36-40
Human nature has the tendency to tear down rather than build up. Far too often people are much quicker to discourage someone rather than to encourage someone. Many people hear ten words of discouragement for every word of encouragement. Discouragement can come from a variety of sources. From the life of Barnabas we learn how to encourage others and the impact simple acts of encouragement can have in a person’s life. Through Jesus Christ, like Barnabas, you can be encouraged and become one who encourages others.

Strengthening Your Faith in 2008
01/06/08
Dr. Phil Wilkes, Luke 4:21-30
We look at the second part of Jesus message in the synagogue. The people were pleased with what they were hearing from Jesus until he started showing them things in their lives God was not pleased with. Jesus challenges you to practice God’s word and by doing so you reveal your love for God. Your love for God increases as you guard against the temptation of becoming self satisfied. Don’t settle for living like everyone else, choose to live your life by God’s standards. Finally, you impact those around you as you extend mercy to them in the same way you desire to receive mercy from God. As you begin 2008 be sure you are taking what Jesus says seriously.
