Sometimes life becomes much more intense and challenging that we realize. Sometimes the problems seem to multiply exponentially. How can believers encourage each other in the difficulties of life? Peter says live in unity with each other. We need each other as Christians. Be compassionate. Love each other as family. Then be willing to extend help to others facing their own storms.

Whatever is inside you will come out when put under enough pressure. Peter wants believers to continue to focus on their relationship with Christ. As Christian respond under pressure those around them will see their faith and also be drawn to Christ. Christ is our example for how to respond. Peter assumes there will be times that because you follow Christ that you will suffer. God can work in your life in the midst of the suffering. You can live courageously because Christ is at work in your life even in the hardships and persecution.

How do you prepare for tough times? The Weather Channel does a hurricane preparation week every spring to prepare people who live in areas prone to hurricanes. Peter writes to prepare Christians for times when life is a struggle, when you face trials and persecution. He tells us that you can prepare by taking in God’s truth and being connected to Jesus Christ. When you do this then what comes out of you under pressure in the storm will honor Christ and provide testimony to others of your faith in the Lord.

You can choose to allow Christ to help you. By following Christ you have all his resources at your disposal. As Christ lives through you then you will be able to share his love with those you interact with each day. You will be enabled to love others even when you are going through incredible trials.
